TMJ/TMD

We not only treat your teeth,...

We treat the entire masticatory system that is responsible for chewing, speaking, swallowing, tasting and breathing. The system is made up of bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and teeth. In addition, there is an intricate neurological controlling system that regulates and coordinates these components.

Malfunctioning of the masticatory system is often referred to as TMJ or TMD. TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint -one of the most complex and most used joints in the human body..

A malfunction of the masticatory system can cause an uncomfortable bite and conversely, a bad bite can cause a malfunction of the masticatory system. If left untreated, these situations can lead to dislocation inside the joint, often recognized as a clicking or popping of the jaw. Further malfunction can lead to arthritis, degenerative joint disease and cranio-facial pain.
