Sedation Dentistry

Are you afraid to visit the Dentist?
Our office offers Sedation Dentistry for those patients who suffer from dental phobias and all types of anxiety. Sedation dentistry is a safe technique that has helped thousands of people receive the dental care that they require. There are different types and levels of sedation dentistry.

These depend on the type of dental treatment the patient requires and the severity of anxiety.

Types of Sedation

Oral sedatives
This technique of oral sedation begins about two hours prior to your dental appointment. A sedative pill will be prescribed to the patient that will allow the patient to become very relaxed. This sedation can last between 2 to 6 hours. To ensure your safety, we ask that you plan to have someone bring and pick you up from the office. As oral sedatives are not pan relievers, a local anesthetic will also be used.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation
IV sedation is the administration of a tranquilizer medication into the patient’s vein. The sedative creates a strong feeling of relaxation and comfort. During your dental treatment you will not experience any pain or discomfort and will have no memory of the treatment. As with oral sedation, a local anesthetic will be used for pain relief.
